Scenario
In the midst of an international crisis, career diplomat Kate Wyler lands a high-profile job for which she is ill-suited, with tectonic implications for her marriage and her political future.. Producers have convinced both the American and the American one; British governments to allow them to use real-life sets as filming locations for the series, including the still-recent US embassy (at Nine Elms) which opened in 2018. Britain allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, a rarely granted schedule. The only location unavailable was Winfield House, the current residence of the US ambassador.

Although it is accurately described as occupying the largest residential plot (11 acres) in London other than Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming. Boy was I wrong
Season 2 almost had me having a heart attack in the last few minutes of season 2. I don’t know if my heart can handle a season 3. I originally thought this was a low-key, slow-burn political drama. Maybe another type of “feel good” TV drama like Madame Secretary.
This is political theater at its best
The Diplomat will have you on the edge of your seat every episode. Binge looks at them like a hungry animal. It’s even cuter than my wildest dreams. And even if it’s only one-tenth true of what really goes on in US politics and the various agencies (CIA, Secret Service, Diplomacy), it’s still a wild ride.
