No need to apologize
Scenario
Joe, a CIA operative, tries to balance her personal and professional life as a spearhead in the agency’s war on terror, and so on. Mr. Sheridan knows how to bring us into testosterone-fueled macho worlds without cliches and seemingly without an agenda. It is what it is. His characters are always grounded and he has a knack for casting.
Friends are simple
But to be great, you have to write good parts for women. The writing must be as good, if not better, than that of men. Women are smarter, more complex. Beth on Yellowstone (great character and performance), the barrel riders, the lone woman on the ranch (a fantastic Jen Landon as Teeter) are great female characters who fit naturally, flawlessly into the world of the story. They are strong and convincing.
Not only 'partner' or T & A
He stepped up his game with the great character Faith Hill, crushed in "1883" followed by Dame Mirren in the fire that was ‘1923’. Now we have Zoe Saldana doing some of the best work of her career. I really bought her as a CIA boss in an open marriage (nice touch). I buy De Oliveira as a broken woman with a burning rage who won’t give up, and thank you, thank you, thank you to the writers/directors/producers for not letting her get the best of her fellow soldier with an extra…hundred pounds of muscle. Honesty first!
I buy it
I think her character is much more interesting if she has to be out cold or just stunned on the ground before she leaves. Now let’s talk about Jill Wagner, should I talk about her hair? What about the face! From schmaltzy Hallmark dreck to super crazy special forces? Special Mention: Ms.
Good actor, can be interesting
Lanier as the ugly teenage daughter. I’m looking forward to this loose canon arc as long as they continue to avoid the cliché of teenage angst.
